জীবনে একজন মানুষের সাফল্য সাধারণত সম্পদ, বাড়ি, গাড়ি কিংবা ব্যবসা-বাণিজ্যের মাধ্যমে পরিমাপ করা হয়। তবে কুমিল্লার ব্রাহ্মণপাড়া উপজেলার ধন্যদৌল গ্রামের মোশাররফ হোসেন খান চৌধুরীর জীবনগল্প কিছুটা ভিন্ন। প্রবাসজীবনে কঠোর পরিশ্রম করে অর্জিত অর্থের বড় একটি অংশ তিনি ব্যয় করেছেন শিক্ষা ও মানবকল্যাণে। নিজে উচ্চশিক্ষার স্বপ্ন পূরণ করতে না পারলেও অন্যদের জন্য শিক্ষার সুযোগ তৈরি করাকে জীবনের অন্যতম লক্ষ্য হিসেবে নিয়েছেন তিনি। তাঁর উদ্যোগে একের পর এক শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়েছে, যেখানে বর্তমানে হাজারো শিক্ষার্থী পড়াশোনা করছে।

মোশাররফ হোসেন খান চৌধুরী ১৯৬৪ সালের ৩১ ডিসেম্বর আবদুর রাজ্জাক খান চৌধুরী ও মোছাম্মৎ আশেদা খাতুন চৌধুরীর ঘরে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। ছয় ভাই-বোনের মধ্যে তিনি ছিলেন সবার বড়। মাত্র পঞ্চম শ্রেণিতে পড়ার সময় ১৯৭৪ সালে তিনি বাবাকে হারান। বাবার মৃত্যুর পর অল্প বয়সেই তাঁকে পরিবারের দায়িত্ব ও বাস্তবতার সঙ্গে পরিচিত হতে হয়।

১৯৮৩ সালে উচ্চমাধ্যমিক শিক্ষা শেষ করে জীবিকার সন্ধানে কাতারে পাড়ি জমান মোশাররফ হোসেন। দীর্ঘ প্রবাসজীবনে তাঁকে বিভিন্ন ধরনের কাজ করতে হয়েছে। পরে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের নিউইয়র্কেও ট্যাক্সিক্যাব চালানো, ফাস্টফুড রেস্তোরাঁয় কাজ এবং নির্মাণ প্রতিষ্ঠানে শ্রম দেওয়ার মতো নানা পেশায় যুক্ত ছিলেন তিনি। তবে বিদেশের মাটিতে নিজের ভবিষ্যৎ গড়ার পাশাপাশি দেশের মানুষের জন্যও কিছু করার চিন্তা তাঁর মধ্যে সবসময়ই ছিল।

১৯৮৯ সালে দেশে ফিরে বাবার নামে ধন্যদৌল গ্রামে প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন আবদুর রাজ্জাক খান চৌধুরী উচ্চবিদ্যালয়। প্রত্যন্ত এলাকার শিক্ষার্থীদের শিক্ষার সুযোগ তৈরির এই উদ্যোগ পরবর্তী সময়ে আরও বিস্তৃত হয়।

১৯৯৪ সালে মা ও নানির নামে প্রতিষ্ঠা করা হয় আশেদা-জোবেদা ফোরকানিয়া মাদ্রাসা। এরপর ১৯৯৯ সালে ব্রাহ্মণপাড়া উপজেলা সদরে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয় মোশাররফ হোসেন খান চৌধুরী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কলেজ। প্রতিবেদনে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে, বর্তমানে কলেজটিতে ১০টি বিষয়ে অনার্স পড়ানো হচ্ছে এবং প্রায় ৩ হাজার শিক্ষার্থী অধ্যয়ন করছে।

একই বছর প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয় আবদুল মতিন খসরু মহিলা কলেজ। বর্তমানে প্রতিষ্ঠানটিতে পাঁচ শতাধিক শিক্ষার্থী পড়াশোনা করছে। মেয়েদের উচ্চশিক্ষার সুযোগ তৈরিতেও প্রতিষ্ঠানটি ভূমিকা রাখছে।

২০০২ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয় মুমু রোহান কিন্ডারগার্টেন। প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়েছে, বর্তমানে সেখানে প্রায় ৩০০ শিক্ষার্থী পড়াশোনা করছে।

শিক্ষার পাশাপাশি স্বাস্থ্য ও মানবকল্যাণেও অবদান রেখেছেন মোশাররফ হোসেন। ২০১০ সালে ব্রাহ্মণপাড়া ডায়াবেটিক হাসপাতাল নির্মাণের জন্য তিনি এক বিঘা জমি দান করেন। এ ছাড়া দরিদ্র মানুষের সহায়তা, গৃহহীনদের জন্য ঘর নির্মাণ, মসজিদ নির্মাণসহ বিভিন্ন সামাজিক ও মানবিক কর্মকাণ্ডে তাঁর সহযোগিতার কথা জানিয়েছেন স্থানীয়রা।

তাঁর জনকল্যাণমূলক কর্মকাণ্ডের একটি ব্যতিক্রমী উদাহরণ প্রাচীন একটি বটগাছ সংরক্ষণ। প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়েছে, ব্রাহ্মণপাড়া মন্দিরের পাশে থাকা বিশাল বটগাছটি বিক্রির উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হলে এক লাখ টাকা দিয়ে গাছটির মালিকানা গ্রহণ করেন তিনি। পরে সেই সম্পত্তি মন্দির ও গ্রামের বিদ্যালয়ের নামে দিয়ে দেন। প্রাকৃতিকভাবে যতদিন গাছটি টিকে থাকবে, ততদিন এটি সংরক্ষণের পরিকল্পনাও রয়েছে।

মোশাররফ হোসেনের শিক্ষার প্রতি এই আগ্রহের পেছনে রয়েছে পারিবারিক ঐতিহ্য। তাঁর পরিবারের আগের প্রজন্মের সদস্যরাও শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান প্রতিষ্ঠার সঙ্গে যুক্ত ছিলেন। প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়েছে, তাঁর দাদা সিরাজ খান চৌধুরী ১৯৩৭ সালে ধন্যদৌল গ্রামে একটি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয় প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন এবং নিজেই সেখানে প্রধান শিক্ষকের দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। তাঁর বাবা আবদুর রাজ্জাক খান চৌধুরী ১৯৫৭ সালে দুর্গম রাঙামাটি এলাকায় একটি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয় প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন।

দীর্ঘ প্রবাসজীবনে কঠোর পরিশ্রম করে অর্জিত অর্থের বড় একটি অংশ নিজের সম্পদ বৃদ্ধির পরিবর্তে এলাকার শিক্ষা ও সামাজিক উন্নয়নে ব্যয় করে ভিন্ন দৃষ্টান্ত স্থাপন করেছেন মোশাররফ হোসেন খান চৌধুরী। অন্যদের জন্য শিক্ষার সুযোগ তৈরি করে তিনি নিজের অপূর্ণ শিক্ষার স্বপ্নও পূরণের চেষ্টা করছেন।

A person's success in life is usually measured by wealth, house, car or business. However, the life story of Mosharraf Hossain Khan Chowdhury of Dhanyadaul village in Brahmanpara upazila of Comilla is somewhat different. He spent a large part of his hard earned money on education and human welfare. Even though he could not fulfill his dream of higher education, he has taken it as one of the goals of his life to create educational opportunities for others. Several educational institutions have been established under his initiative, where thousands of students are currently studying.

Mosharraf Hossain Khan Chowdhury was born on December 31, 1964 to Abdur Razzak Khan Chowdhury and Mosammat Asheda Khatun Chowdhury. He was the eldest among six brothers and sisters. He lost his father in 1974 when he was only in fifth grade. After the death of his father, he had to get acquainted with the responsibilities and reality of the family at an early age.

After passing high school in 1983, Mosharraf Hossain migrated to Qatar in search of livelihood. During his long sojourn, he had to do various jobs. Later, he also worked in New York, USA, driving a taxicab, working in a fast food restaurant and working in a construction company. But besides building his own future abroad, he also kept thinking of doing something for the people of the country.

After returning home in 1989, he established Abdur Razzak Khan Chowdhury High School in the name of his father in Dhanyadaul village. This initiative to create educational opportunities for students in remote areas later expanded its educational activities.

In 1994 Asheda-Jobeda Forkaniya Madrasa was established in the name of mother and grandmother. Then in 1999, Mosharraf Hossain Khan Chowdhury University College was established in Brahmanpara Upazila headquarters. According to the report, the college currently offers honors in 10 subjects and around 3,000 students are studying.In the same year, Abdul Mateen Khosrow established Women's College. Currently more than five hundred students are studying in the institution. The institution also plays a role in creating higher education opportunities for girls. In 2002, Mumu founded Rohan Kindergarten, where about 300 students are studying, reports said.

Besides education, Mosharraf Hossain has also supported in health and human welfare. In 2010, he donated one bigha of land for the construction of Brahmanpara Diabetic Hospital. Besides, the locals have informed about his cooperation in various social and humanitarian activities including the cooperation of poor people, construction of houses for the homeless, construction of mosques.

An exceptional example of his philanthropic activities is the conservation of an ancient banyan tree. According to the report, when an initiative was taken to sell the huge banyan tree next to the Brahmanpara temple, he accepted the ownership of the tree by paying one lakh taka. Later he gave that property in the name of temple and village school. Plans are also made to preserve the tree as long as it survives naturally.

Behind Mosharraf Hossain's passion for education is family tradition. Previous generations of his family members were associated with the establishment of educational institutions. His grandfather Siraj Khan Chowdhury established a primary school in Dhanyadaul village in 1937 and served as the headmaster himself. His father, Abdur Razzak Khan Chowdhury, established a primary school in a remote area of ​​Rangamati in 1957, reports said.

Mosharraf Hossain Khan Chowdhury has set a different example by spending a large part of his hard earned money during his long sojourn on education and social development of his area. He is trying to fulfill his unfulfilled dream of education by creating educational opportunities for others.
